Life is Medicine Fundraiser Event + Video

01 — Project details

I acted as event coordinator and marketing director for the Life is Medicine Fundraiser event.

Our aim was to raise 15K to contribute to a prothetic leg for a local mother who is undergoing amputation due to cancer.

We only had 4 weeks to plan, organize and execute it.

I assembled and managed a highly motivated team of 9 volunteers, planned the fundraising activities at the event, did outreach to local businesses to organize raffles and silent auction items, booked talent for the event, created marketing materials including high engagement video campaigns, a press release leading to future coverage coming up on her story and produced a 25 min documentary that was screened at the event.

By the end of the event we confirmed we had raised 14K in 4 hours!

02 — Creative process

My vision was to evoke a music festival-like environment at the event that matched the interests of both the person we were fundraising for and the potential guests.

I started with choosing a name that would attract people who didn't personally know Jenna but who would be attracted to the concept: "Life is Medicine". It was a hit!

We put it on hats and charms and close to sold out on all the merchandise with the name. The next step was choosing activities that people could engage in during the event. To match the festival theme we had a charm necklace booth. To increase sales, I changed the angle to be a "What's your story?" booth where people designed charm necklaces that represent their life.

This simple marketing shift of focusing on what the item represents in your life rather than just a charm necklace, really increased our guests emotional connection to their necklace. The station had a line all night!

We also had a flower crown making station that added to the festival vibe and brought in a fresh and beautiful aesthetic. Having things our guests could wear at the event, turned everyone there into our sales reps!

The combination of the live music, drum circle, the graphic design, the marketing angles and activity booths really came together to bring our theme to life.

Thanks to a very hard working dream team behind me, we successfully executed our vision of a music festival style event. And all in less than 30 days!

Our whole team was in awe watching Jenny mastermind and execute everything for this event. I acted as co-event coordinator right beside her and I can't imagine working on a project without her again! I just filed the paperwork for non-profit status on a San Diego nature club I've run for 2 years. And as soon as I can pay her a salary, I'm coming to try and get her! From conception to execution, Jenny can do it all.

I enjoyed working closely with Jenny and witnessed her outstanding organizational skills, leadership, and commitment to our cause. During the planning and execution of the fundraiser, Jenny demonstrated a remarkable ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. She was instrumental in coordinating the event, managing volunteers, and overseeing logistics. Her attention to detail ensured that everything ran smoothly, resulting in a highly successful event. Jenny has exceptional communication skills. She effectively liaised with donors, and volunteers, ensuring that everyone was well-informed and engaged.

As our Creative Marketing Director on our projects her leadership skills gave me the guidance needed to continue my work flow. We worked together daily communicating via phone, in person, email, text, and zoom. I felt heard, seen. Her project management allowed me to feel empowered in my own skills and abilities. She managed and oversaw all of the micro projects within our event and her work as Creative Director creating content with a story strategy approach was key to the success of our event.

03 — Storytelling

Below is the mini-documentary I filmed and edited (in just 6 days) to screen at the event.
